What Are Beef Back Ribs?

Beef back ribs come from the upper rib section of the cow—the same area used for ribeye steaks and prime rib roasts. This cut tends to have less meat between the bones but is rich in flavor, especially when cooked low and slow. It’s perfect for:

  • Grilling
  • Smoking
  • Broiling
  • Sous vide
  • Pressure cooking

Whether you’re after that smoky crust or juicy fall-off-the-bone texture, beef back ribs can handle just about any cooking method. Let’s look at two ways to bring out the best in them.

Recipe #1: Oven-Baked Beef Back Ribs

This oven-baked recipe is long on time but short on stress. With just 10 minutes of prep and 5 hours in the oven, you’ll end up with ultra-tender, flavorful ribs that reheat well for 3–4 days.

Ingredients:

  • 2 racks beef back ribs (about 2 lbs each)
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp hot pepper sauce
  • Olive oil spray
  • 2 tsp smoked salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Pro Tip: Don’t want to mix your own rub? Stop by our market and choose from our ready-made house blends!
